PROCLAMATION
Whereas, over 80 years ago, the forefathers of our city looked beyond their time and laid a foundation for innovation, exploration, and community when they established the Longmont Municipal Airport at 229 Airport Road; and
Whereas, since October 28, 1945, the airport has remained steadfast at this historic location and continues to serve as a gateway to significant opportunity and progress; and
Whereas, the Longmont Municipal Airport, now Vance Brand Airport (airport identifier KLMO), has earned the respect and support of three living NASA astronauts, generations of commercial and private pilots, business aviation professionals, numerous successful aviation enterprises, as well as professional skydivers who travel to this airport from over 75 countries; and
Whereas, our airport and single runway has inspired and empowered education, technological advancement, exploration, commerce, and countless personal and professional achievements; and
Whereas, the airport has continually contributed to support jobs, economic growth, continuing education, animal rescues, military exercises, emergency support, and the spirit of innovation that defines our community, while inspiring future generations to reach beyond the horizon;
Now, therefore, we honor and celebrate 80 years of the Longmont Airport’s legacy—recognizing its history, its impact, and its enduring role in shaping the past, present, and future of our city.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have used our runway and flown to and from, skydived into, aided in emergencies and rescue missions, performed in air shows, taught, worked, dreamed, and achieved because of this enduring cornerstone of our community, and to all who will continue to be inspired by its presence in the years ahead.
